6 Weight Loss Tips to Get You Back On Track

October 5th, 2010

Some weight loss programs don’t really work because they just demand too much from you. You should find a practical strategy for losing weight and stick to it. There are a few things you can do to help you improve your diet plan and lose weight.

  1. Log your food.
Write down everything that you have eaten–every sip, every morsel and every “tiny taste” you had for the day. Dieters who write everything down lose twice the amount of weight. You don’t necessarily have to start calorie counting, but you get a general idea of how much you have eaten. It also gives you an idea of the things you need to cut out of your diet plan–that blueberry butter muffin, for instance.
  2. Weigh yourself regularly.
You don’t have to do this every day, but you have to weigh yourself on a regular basis. Knowing exactly how much you weigh will give you an idea of how much more you need to lose. Let your weighing scale act as your conscience. If you start gaining, then that is best time to rein yourself in, junk your bad habits and step up in your weight loss goals.

  3. Limit your intake of soda and other sugary drinks.
Drinking your calories is the easiest way to gaining weight because you don’t “feel” your weight gain. To liven up water, add citrus fruits, mint or cucumber. Choose low fat milk or go for soy milk instead. Even if you get involved in weight loss programs, hydrating is very important, as long as you hydrate with the correct fluids.
  4. Get plenty of sleep.
The more sleep you get, the less time you think of what you want to eat. Sleep deprivation increases your hunger hormone, leading you to crave for more fattening food. Weight loss is achieved by taking control of your hunger and cravings. You do so by sleeping at least eight hours every day.
  5. Treat yourself.
After dieting the whole week, treat yourself to something you like, such as a bar of chocolate, a cup of ice cream, or a piece of fried chicken. This will motivate you to stick to your diet plan and makes you feel less deprived.
  6. Clean your kitchen.
Do not keep a bag of munchies or a gallon of ice cream in your kitchen. Throw all the bad stuff out and keep only fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grain cereals and bread. That way, you make sure that you keep your diet plan. This is also an effective way of curbing your appetite.

Weight loss is one of the biggest commitments you need to make to yourself, but it is the most rewarding one. It will be difficult to change your habits at first, but you will not regret the effects of having a healthier body.
